Annual Financial Report
This document offers the financial reports for Saint Patrick Parish, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, and the Cor Unum Meal Center for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. Because this space does not allow for an explanation of all the specific line items in the reports, parishioners who have detailed questions or comments are invited to speak directly with Mrs. Enny Santos, our parish’s Business Manager.
The budgets for the various institutions of Saint Patrick Parish are established each spring for the next fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. Budgets are monitored on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis by our staff and by the members of the Parish Finance Council. During FY 2023, the members of the Parish Finance Council were David Abdoo, Alyssa Elwell, Father Alonso Macias, Phu Nguyen, Heriberto Nova, and Father Paul B. O’Brien. (In January, we mourned the death of Jack Kaslow, who served faithfully on the Parish Finance Council for three decades. Jack is greatly missed.) The work of the Parish Finance Council was facilitated by Mrs. Pat Neel and Mrs. Karen Miller of Andover Administrative Services, Inc. As is the case with all of its parishes, the Archdiocese of Boston monitors our financial transactions and accounts through a monthly reporting system and conducts a formal audit every three years.
From our detailed financial reports for FY 2023, the following facts are important to note.
Saint Patrick’s completed FY 2023 with a balanced operating budget. This is strong proof of the sacrificial generosity of our parishioners and the wise stewardship of those responsible for our parish’s financial administration. Per Archdiocesan reporting requirements, our parish’s annual financial statistics include expenses for our stained glass window restoration project (the Inspiring Hope Campaign) and certain activities of parish organizations for which funds were raised in previous fiscal years. Bracketing those expenses, our parish’s regular operations were balanced for the year.
Our parish’s combined weekly offertory and Monthly Parish Projects collections increased by seven percent during FY 2023 as compared to FY 2022 ($509,174 vs. $474,653).
Parishioners’ contributions surpassed our goals for the 2022 Grand Annual Appeal ($193,398 vs. $180,000 goal) and the 2023 Spring Collection ($146,977 vs. $145,000 goal). The success of these collections is a point of particular celebration!
The “Miscellaneous” line item for the parish revenue includes miscellaneous income (1) for the parish, and (2) for the work of various parish organizations, including our Saint Vincent Group.
The detailed financial report for the parish includes a line item for “School Support”, representing the $80,000 that our parish commits annually to the operation of Lawrence Catholic Academy, which we are proud to support as the best educational opportunity for most children in Lawrence.
In the detailed financial reports for our parish and cemetery, there is a line item for “Unrealized Gains (Loss) from Investments”. This indicates the fluctuation in the market value of our investment accounts held at the Archdiocese of Boston during FY 2023 (which was a gain). At Saint Patrick’s, we do not reduce our operating budget in years when we experience unrealized market losses, just as we do not increase our operating budget in years when we experience unrealized market gains. Each year’s unrealized gain or loss is reflected in the balance of our accounts at the Archdiocese but does not impact our operating budget.
At the end of FY 2023, our parish held $476,720 in unrestricted savings, $117,369 in savings that have some restrictions, and $74,557 in savings restricted to specific parish groups and ministries. Altogether, our savings represent a solid foundation for rainy days we may face in the future.
Our parish’s cemetery, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover, operates financially on a stand-alone basis, without any subsidy from our offertory income. The cemetery successfully completed the fiscal year in the black. At the end of the fiscal year, the cemetery held a healthy balance of $138,914 in its Perpetual Care Fund.
Our Cor Unum Meal Center is funded entirely by sources separate from the rest of the organization of Saint Patrick Parish. The leaders of Cor Unum do a fine job of raising the funds needed to run the meal center, as well as reserve funds that are kept in savings to cover long-term capital improvements, unforeseen budget necessities, and community support. Cor Unum completed FY 2023 with a slight deficit ($17,576), which reflects significantly increased inflationary costs for food and increased stipends for part-time employees who were needed for the effective operation of Cor Unum due to a decrease in volunteers during COVID. The small deficit was covered through Cor Unum’s savings, which at the end of FY 2023 stood at $2,863,994.
As is the case with the parish, per Archdiocesan reporting requirements, Cor Unum’s annual financial statistics include a new initiative at Lawrence Catholic Academy. The $40,562 in expenses for that initiative were covered by an individual donor and were not part of Cor Unum’s operating budget.
Our parish’s remarkably positive financial report powerfully shows the great strengths of our community’s faith and our commitment to helping build the Kingdom of God in Lawrence. We are blessed to be a family of authentic disciples of Jesus Christ, consistently sacrificing the treasure He has given us to do His work. Through His grace, we are confident of having a very bright future at Saint Patrick Parish!

Este documento ofrece los reportes financieros de la Parroquia de San Patricio, el cementerio del Santísimo Sepulcro y el comedor público Cor Unum correspondientes al año fiscal 2023. Puesto que este espacio no nos permite ofrecer una explicación detallada de cada elemento en los reportes, los feligreses que tengan preguntas o comentarios específicos están invitados a hablar directamente con la Sra. Enny Santos, encargada de la contabilidad de nuestra parroquia.
Los presupuestos de las varias organizaciones de la parroquia de San Patricio se establecen cada primavera para el siguiente año fiscal, el cual va de julio 1 a junio 30. Los presupuestos son monitoreados diaria, semanal y mensualmente por parte de quienes trabajan en la parroquia y de los miembros del Consejo Financiero Parroquial. Durante el año fiscal 2023 los miembros del Concejo Financiero Parroquial fueron David Abdoo, Alyssa Elwell, el P. Alonso Macías, Phu Nguyen, Heriberto Nova y el P. Paul B. O’Brien. (En enero de este año lamentamos el fallecimiento de Jack Kaslow, quien sirvió fielmente en el Concejo Financiero Parroquial por tres décadas. Extrañamos a Jack inmensamente). El trabajo del Concejo Financiero Parroquial fue facilitado por la Sra. Pat Neel y la Sra. Karen Miller de la compañía Andover Administrative Services, Inc. La parroquia de San Patricio completó el año fiscal 2023 con un presupuesto operacional balanceado. Esto es una prueba clara de la generosidad sacrificial de nuestros feligreses y de la sabiduría de quienes están encargados de coordinar de manera responsable la administración financiera de nuestra parroquia. Siguiendo las orientaciones arquidiocesanas para reportar estos asuntos, las estadísticas financieras anuales de nuestra parroquia incluyen los gastos asociados con el proyecto de restauración de los vitrales (parte de la Campaña Esperanza Inspiradora) y ciertas actividades de las organizaciones parroquiales para las cuales se procuraron fondos en años fiscales anteriores. Poniendo esos gastos aparte, las operaciones regulares de nuestra parroquia se mantuvieron balanceadas durante el año.
La colecta del ofertorio semanal y la colecta mensual para cubrir proyectos parroquiales juntas incrementaron un 7 por ciento durante año fiscal 2023 en comparación al año fiscal 2022 ($509.174 vs. $474.653).
Las contribuciones de los feligreses sobrepasaron la meta de la Gran Colecta Anual del 2022 ($193.398 vs. una meta de $180.000) y la Colecta de Primavera del 2023 ($146.977 vs. una meta de $145.000). ¡El éxito de estas colectas es una razón en particular para celebrar!
La categoría de ingresos “Misceláneos” en la línea de entradas (revenue) incluye ingresos varios (1) por parte de la parroquia y (2) por el servicio de varias organizaciones parroquiales, incluyendo nuestro Grupo San Vicente.
El reporte financiero detallado de nuestra parroquia incluye una línea denominada “Apoyo a la escuela” (School Support), el cual es equivalente a $80.000 que nuestra parroquia contribuye anualmente a las operaciones de Lawrence Catholic Academy. Es un orgullo apoyar a la escuela como la mejor oportunidad educativa para la mayoría de niños en Lawrence.
En los reportes financieros detallados de nuestra parroquia y del cementerio hay una entrada correspondiente a “ganancias (pérdidas) provenientes de inversiones.” Esta entrada refleja la fluctuación del valor del mercado de nuestras cuentas de inversión, las cuales la Arquidiócesis de Boston manejó durante el año fiscal 2023 (en este caso ganancia). En San Patricio no reducimos nuestro presupuesto operacional en los años cuando tenemos pérdidas que no anticipábamos en el mercado al igual que tampoco incrementamos dicho presupuesto en los años cuando experimentamos ganancias. Las ganancias o las pérdidas asociadas con inversiones cada año se reflejan en el balance de nuestras cuentas con la arquidiócesis, pero no impactan nuestro presupuesto operacional.
Al final del año fiscal 2023, la parroquia tenía $476.720 en ahorros sin restricciones, $117.369 en ahorros con restricciones y $74.557 en ahorros restringidos para ser usados por parte de grupos y ministerios parroquiales específicos. Todos juntos, nuestros ahorros representan una base sólida para días de necesidad que puedan venir en el futuro.
Nuestro cementerio parroquial del Santo Sepulcro, ubicado en North Andover, cubre sus propios gastos sin subsidio alguno de nuestro ofertorio. El cementerio culminó el año fiscal sin deuda alguna. Al final del año fiscal habían $138.914 en el Fondo para el Cuidado Perpetuo del cementerio.
Nuestro comedor público Cor Unum es financiado completamente por fuentes distintas al resto de la organización de la parroquia de San Patricio. Los líderes de Cor Unum hacen un trabajo excelente buscando los fondos que se necesitan para que el comedor funcione al igual que reservando fondos disponibles para cubrir mejoras estructurales a largo plazo, necesidades presupuestales no previstas y apoyo a la comunidad. Cor Unum culminó el año fiscal 2023 con un pequeño déficit ($17.576) el cual refleja los incrementos inflacionarios significativos relacionados con el costo de los alimentos y el incremento de estipendios para empleados temporales que se necesitaron para operar a Cor Unum efectivamente debido a una disminución de voluntarios durante días de COVID. El pequeño déficit fue cubierto usando los ahorros de Cor Unum, los cuales a finales del año fiscal 2023 llegaban a un total de $2.863.994.
Como en el caso de la parroquia, siguiendo las orientaciones arquidiocesanas para reportar sobre estos asuntos, las estadísticas financieras anuales de Cor Unum incluyen una nueva iniciativa en la Academia Católica de Lawrence. Los $40.562 asociados con gastos para dicha iniciativa fueron cubiertos por un benefactor y no fueron parte del presupuesto operacional de Cor Unum.
Este reporte financiero parroquial bastante positivo muestra de manera indudable las enormes fortalezas de nuestra comunidad de fe y nuestro compromiso para ayudar a construir el Reino de Dios en Lawrence. Somos bendecidos por ser una familia de discípulos auténticos de Jesucristo, haciendo sacrificios consistentemente con relación al tesoro que nos ha dado para avanzar su misión. ¡Por su gracia tenemos la confianza de que el futuro de la parroquia de San Patricio brillará con esplendor!
